Meeting Exacting Demands Is No Soap Opera!
One of the largest UK manufacturers of washing powder, Robert McBride of Barrow-in- Furness, Cumbria, needed a feeder system capable of handling 12 tonnes of granular material per hour, fit within a very confined space in their production line, operate 24 hours per day and have the highest level of reliability - and be mobile! After being offered a number of standard pieces of equipment by other manufacturers, none of which would meet their demanding requirements, they approached KFA to design and manufacture a system which would exactly meet their needs.
What did KFA do?

KFA spent some time examining the precise nature of the existing manufacturing system and looked in detail at the characteristics of the various soap powder materials. The feed unit would have to be capable of handling a range of particle sizes but be able to reject anything with a dimension greater than 15 mm and separate it into a reprocessing unit, without reducing the specified flow rate. Additionally, as part of the quality assurance system operated by McBride's, frequent product sampling is required and KFA had to incorporate both inspection and sampling ports into the unit casing.
Additionally, there was a need to provide two standard inlet ports with the facility for a third to be brought into use on occasion. The design team drew up a detailed proposal which they discussed with the technical and production staff at McBride's. Once the equipment specification had been agreed, KFA were able to complete the detailed design work in house and build the equipment within the specified time scale.
The finished unit, which is wholly made from stainless steel, has hinged quick release covers providing total sealing to eliminate spillage and incorporates removable wire filter screen decks. The machine is powered by two contra-rotating vibrator motors and is mounted on a lockable mobile framework. Furthermore, although the KFA equipment is a stand alone unit, it has been designed to integrate fully with the existing process line.
Quality and consistency brings customers back for more
Like so many of KFA's customers, Robert McBride have found that their equipment meets all their requirements, performing consistently and conforming to all the relevant safety and electrical standards. And, like so many customers, they have come back for more, recognising that in KF Alliance Engineering they have found a partner whose aim is to help them meet their own output requirements in the most economic and efficient way possible.
